Still trying? Hard, isn’t it? Well, the Danes have done it, and done it well. Not only did Denmark give us Carlsberg Lager and LEGO, but now they’ve given us the short film ZombieWestern: It Came From The West. It lasts just under twenty minutes, but not a minute is wasted in this wild west themed puppety extravaganza.

Yes, puppets. The entire thing is done using Muppet style puppets, ie: rods controlling their arm movements and a hand up their ass.

The story begins with some injuns (because that’s what they’re always called in westerns) who decide to do a sacred ritual to save their people. Next we meet the characters, the main character is a cowardly young lad who’s father regularly beats him senseless, is taunted by a couple of odd looking cowboys, and all of this is seen by the bartender.

After getting his ass kicked through the door of the saloon a stranger enters. It’s the first of many zombies to attack the saloon. But never fear, for the psycho dad has a kick-ass chainsaw hidden in a safe, shame it’s broken. After dispatching of a few zombies the cowardly boy managed to get the chainsaw working and he begins to wreak havok among the zombie population.

YeeHAW! *BRAAAAAAMMM BRAAMM!!*

The kid gets the hang of the zombie slaughter thing but, of course, something has to go awry and that’s the twist. But I shant spoil it.

Like I said, at under twenty minutes, it’s short. But it’s fuckin’ awesome! It’s filled with humour, gore and zombies. What more could you ask for? Normally I’d say ‘boobies’, but puppet boobies just don’t do it for me, sorry.

Truth be told, there’s more entertainment in this short than in most ninety-minute Hollywood films. Someone give these guys a good budget to make a full length spaghetti western with puppets and zombies.
