I was flicking through a shed-ton (technical term) of old movie posters on my computer when I realised that I could do a post on some of my favourites. Now, this is not my top 10 most favourite, it’s just ten that are pretty awesome that I’m throwing out at you. Note also that most are a decade or two old. In other words: these babies were probably hand painted by some very talented people. Not Photoshopped to fuck and back like today’s boring posters.
I’m assuming the artwork was commissioned before the film was complete as it bears little resemblance to Freddy apart from the actual blades. Who knows, maybe Freddy was originally envisioned to be skull-ish and have a more metallic glove/hand.
While not the greatest of films, seeing this on a video cover would immediately make you rent it.
A fine example of how to cram everything good from your film into a poster and it still looks shit hot. It has medieval shit, skeletons, a man with a chainsaw for a hand, and a hot chick.
Not a film that I’ve seen, but that poster makes me want to see it, and that’s the sign of a damn good poster. Oh, and it reminds me of Speedball 2 from my Commodore Amiga days.
OK, I’m doubling up on this one. I can do that. It’s my post. I’m allowed! Both Evil Dead posters are awesome. They’re colourful, kinda creepy, yet still a bit comical. Think about it: compare these Evil Dead posters to the remake poster. Which one makes you want to watch the film? Hm?
This one may not be the best of illustrations, but it has more of a sentimental value for me as I loved the House films. If you haven’t seen them, do yourself a favour and hunt them out they’re a piece of pure 80’s comedy.
This one is here because of the sheer notoriety it held back in the day. It was one of the the (sometimes banned) films that every horror fan wanted to see.
Another fine example of putting all the cool stuff from your film into a poster and not making it look messy. And I love the tagline. It always makes me chuckle.
Another double up, but this is because the posters are so similar. That and I like the idea of creepy faces in clouds.
… and finally:
A crazy animated film that, again, brings back fond memories of the good old days. If you haven’t seen it. Do so. It’s a bit trippy at times, but that adds to it’s charm.
HONOURABLE MENTION
I have no idea what the FUCK this poster is about, but it’s friggin amazing!
